At least five people were injured in a shooting at Virginia State University in the US state of Virginia early Saturday, leaving one of the victims in critical condition.

The shooting happened near the university’s Quad Annexes, which are student residence buildings, and the campus was placed under lockdown before the restrictions were later lifted.
According to the Virginia State University Police Department, the shooting took place in the area of the Quad Annexes, located near the university’s residence halls. Officers responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street at about 1.28am.
In a post on X, Virginia State University announced that the lockdown had ended but said police would remain on campus while the investigation continues.
The university said, “The lockdown at Virginia State University has been lifted. A significant law enforcement presence remains on campus as the investigation into this morning’s shooting continues.”
