EA Sports have handed Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk a monumental upgrade on FIFA 22, making him the joint-third best player on the game and the best defender.
Van Dijk has been ever-present for Liverpool in their hunt for the quadruple this season, with the defender helping Liverpool to their 20th Premier League clean sheet of the season in their 2-0 win over Everton. His return to the Liverpool side has seen the Reds challenge on all fronts once again, with the Netherlands international having missed the majority of last season through injury.
As well as being a vital part of the Reds' defensive excellence, the defender has chipped in with three goals and an assist for Jurgen Klopp's side. Crucial to Liverpool's performances this season, EA Sports have acknowledged Van Dijk's consummate performances, handing the 30-year-old an upgrade on FIFA 22 after reaching the major clean sheet milestone.

So, what stats have been upgraded for Van Dijk in-game? These are how his attributes have been changed on FIFA 22, as of the latest squad update that was released on all platforms as of April 21, 2022.
Virgil van Dijk handed huge upgrade in FIFA 22 squad update
Van Dijk has been awarded for his impressive form this season with a +1 upgrade to his overall and potential rating in FIFA 22, taking the defender to 90 rated overall. His potential rating has also increased to 90 rated overall, with Van Dijk now the highest-rated defender in FIFA 22 by two overall ratings.
The upgrade makes Van Dijk the joint-third best player in the game, with Chelsea's N'Golo Kante, Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar and Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer all rated 90 overall. Mohamed Salah remains the highest-rated player at Liverpool (91), but Van Dijk's upgrade takes him one rating higher than Alisson and Sadio Mane (89). Only Kevin De Bruyne, Karim Benzema, Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski are rated higher than Van Dijk on FIFA 22.
It was quite a shock when Van Dijk received a downgrade to his overall rating on FIFA 22's release despite not featuring for nearly the entire season, but the Dutch international has now returned to his previous rating. Along with his overall rating improving, the 30-year-old has received an upgrade to his heading (86-87), reactions (88-89), stamina (72-74), strength (92-93) and aggression (83-85).
