Virgil van Dijk and the one Celtic game that sticks in his mind as Andy Robertson named 'funniest' Liverpool star

Virgil van Dijk admits Celtic 's 6-1 hammering against Barcelona sticks in his memory - for both the right and the wrong reasons.

The now- Liverpool star partnered Efe Ambrose in defence under Neil Lennon back in 2013 and they were subjected to a Neymar masterclass. Only Giorgos Samaras' late strike prevented it from being a complete whitewash and Van Dijk admits it was a lesson early on in his career in the UK.

But as a Barcelona fan growing up, he admits just playing at the Nou Camp for the first time was an experience he'll always remember fondly. Speaking on Gary Neville's The Overlap podcast, he was asked about his favourite away stadium.

Van Dijk said: "That's a difficult one to be fair but I would say Camp Nou, Barcelona. I watched a lot of Barcelona games when I was younger so to be able to play there with Celtic the first time - to get beat 6-1 was tough! - but to be able to play there was a big one for me."

He also surprised Neville when asked to name his funniest teammate - with Scotland skipper Andy Robertson getting the honours there. Van Dijk added: "Andy Robertson. He's funny. He's Scottish, bubbly and always up for a joke. Yeah, he's the funny one."
