When it comes to parenting, everyone has their own style of raising kids and believing what is right and wrong for their well-being. However, there are some basic (and too relevant) parenting ideas that work on a universal level. One such idea is simply showing up for your child.
A video posted to TikTok by Mindy Hyer (aka @mindy_hyer) shows just how true this is. The sweet little video also went viral on Reddit and Instagram.
The video begins at the kid’s kindergarten graduation ceremony. The boy can be seen walking to his designated seat wearing a blue graduation cap and gown. He looks sad and devastated as he slumps down in his seat.
Hyer wrote on the video, “This is why you show up for your kids. Literally wipes his tears thinking nobody was there for him.”
As soon as the sad child spots his family in the audience, his face lights up, and he waves at them with enthusiasm.
The short yet significant video moved the hearts of many netizens, who went on to share their personal experiences – both as a child and as a parent.
“Any parent who struggles with making the time for these types of things; try your best to go. I got to live one of these types of moments, and have never missed another school event since. F**k the job, boss, and stress. A few times per year I am leaving early to watch my kid at school, and if that's not okay; fire me,” a Reddit user commented.
“My pa didn't show up for my show, teacher said I was the most intelligent student she ever had the honor of teaching and she wishes every student was like me, she said that in front of the whole school, but still, wanted my dad,” an Instagram user shared.
