Viral video of robot waiter working at restaurant sparks debate

Modern technology is constantly advancing and changing the way we live, now a debate has been sparked about how this will affect people’s jobs thanks to a viral video showing customers being served their food by a robot waiter.

TikTok user @miabellaceo was dining at Denny’s restaurant where he filmed a robot server named “Janet” as it zoomed around the corner to deliver the two plates to the table.

“Here comes breakfast,” the TikToker says. “We are hungry.”

Since sharing a video of the restaurant robot, @miabellaceo’s TikTok has been viewed over 475,000 times and has led to people sharing their thoughts on the advancing technology we are seeing.

In the comment section, the TikToker did detail that “the waitress did come over and take our order and deliver coffee, the robot just brought the food out.”

Some people loved the idea of a robot because they believed they would have a better dining experience compared to being greeted and looked after by a human waiter.

One person wrote: “Never calls out, doesn’t talk back, always on time, no interpersonal relationship drama, never complains… I’m sold.”

“Introverts will be going out more to eat more knowing they can avoid small talk,” another person said.

A third person wrote: “Never calls off work. Works every holiday.”

While others were particularly keen on the idea that they wouldn’t need to tip the robot, unlike a human waiter.

Someone replied: “Cool, I just saved $12 not giving a tip.”

“If this means I never have to tip again... roll on the bots,” another person commented.

However, there were some who were completely against the idea of being served by a robot waiter, noting that these robots will cause human waiters to lose their jobs eventually.

As those in the restaurant and hospitality industry have campaigned for a $15 per hour minimum wage over the years, their jobs could be at risk in the future if using robot waiters are the cheaper option.

One person said: “I would walk out. Nope. Human or I don’t do business with you.”

“Boycotting Dennys,” another person wrote.

Someone else added: “This will sadly replace a ton of jobs over the next decade. Learn a trade people.”
