A fishing trip off Long Island turned frightening when a humpback whale launched itself out of the water and slammed into a boat, damaging part of the vessel in a collision captured on video.

The incident happened on Saturday, 10 October, near Moriches Inlet, New York. Fisherman Steven Heid was aboard with his father-in-law and nephew, Oliver Samter, when they spotted the whale approximately 300 yards away.
