A personal budgeting video goes viral
In the now-viral clip, Ayushi explains how she structures her monthly expenses while living in Mumbai.
“Trying to make 25k work in Mumbai!!” she wrote in the caption.
She describes the video as a simple breakdown of her monthly financial planning. According to her, the goal is to show how she manages day-to-day life within a strict budget.
“This video is all about how to manage living in Mumbai under ₹25K,” she says in the video.
Monthly expenses breakdown
Ayushi details her spending pattern in the video. The largest portion goes toward rent and electricity, which together amount to around ₹14,000. Transportation costs come to approximately ₹2,000, mainly using public transport. Food expenses are about ₹6,000, as she prefers cooking at home.
The remaining amount is allocated to miscellaneous expenses such as gym memberships and hobbies.
Viewers question the calculations
As the video gained traction online, several users began analysing the figures. Some pointed out that the total expenses appeared to exceed ₹25,000, estimating the overall monthly cost closer to ₹27,000.
Responding to the discussion, Ayushi clarified that her “other” expenses typically stay within ₹3,000, allowing her to remain under the stated budget. She also added, “So, yeah. You can still save if you want.”
Mixed reactions online
The video sparked divided opinions among social media users. Some appreciated the breakdown as a realistic example of disciplined budgeting in an expensive city, while others questioned whether Mumbai living can genuinely be managed within such limits.
Housing arrangements also became a key topic of discussion after Ayushi clarified in responses that her accommodation is shared, which helps keep costs lower.
One user commented, “I was confused about whether it could be managed, but thank you for this informative video.”
Another asked about the rent structure, questioning how ₹14,000 accommodation is possible, to which she replied that it is a shared setup.
Some users shared broader reflections on urban living and financial constraints. One comment noted that surviving in Mumbai is possible if one is not focused on saving aggressively, while another praised the video for reflecting “realistic struggles” of city life.
A larger conversation on urban affordability
Beyond the viral clip, the discussion highlights a recurring question about affordability in major Indian cities. While some see such budgeting examples as encouraging and practical, others argue that they may not fully represent average living costs, especially for those without shared housing or additional financial flexibility.
