Violence erupted in Mexico on Sunday night after security forces killed "El Mencho", the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of the country's most powerful drug cartels.
The drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes was the Mexican government's biggest prize yet to show Washington in its efforts to crack down on the cartels, and his death was met with a forceful reaction from the cartel, known by its Spanish initials CJNG.
