Shocking pictures have emerged of a mass brawl erupting between youth players from a Lanarkshire football club and their opponents at a Scottish Cup tie.
The rammy broke out at Greenfaulds High School in Cumbernauld on Saturday (November 26).
Images and footage, which have circulated social media, show youths from opposing teams Bellshill and Edinburgh Portobello clashing with one another on the pitch, with stunned fans watching on in horror.
Players from both sides were filmed trading punches and kicks during the violence, which took place during the game.
The referee was understood to be furiously blowing his whistle as he tried to calm tensions, but players from both sides were unable to be separated as the pandemonium unfolded.
During the chaos, one player can be seen being kicked off the ground as his teammates try to rush to his aid.
Adults eventually managed to calm the situation and pull apart the players before any more violence erupted.
It is understood that investigations are now taking place at both clubs to discipline those involved and that the Scottish Youth Football Association (SYFA) was looking into the incident.
A spokesman for Bellshill AFC told Lanarkshire Live : “Unfortunately at this stage we are unable to comment on the incident until all internal and external investigations are completed.”
A spokesman for Portobello AFC said it was "now a matter for the relevant authorities to deal with," adding that the team will support them "in any way we can".
He added: "We do not condone the actions of certain players and will deal with this accordingly.
"As for our opposition, it’s not for us to comment as it’s not appropriate at this time.”
