Vinicius Souza transfer development as Celtic target sees suitor stall amid key Manchester City clue

In-demand Vinicius Souza could see his options narrow with Turkish behemoths Fenerbahce focusing on other targets.

The 23-year-old holding midfielder is proving a hot commodity across Europe with a clutch of clubs keen on his services. Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are among those potential suitors and have an 'in' due to their close working relationship with Manchester City. Vinicius is owned by the City Group and is currently under contract with their feeder side Lommel, despite spending last season on loan at Mechelen.

And now it appears a further boost as presented the Glasgow giants with multiple reports in Turkey suggesting William Carvalho is their top target to fill the breach in midfield. The Betis enforcer – capped 73 times by his country – is expected to be on the move this summer. Fener's interest in Vinicius hasn't fizzled out but it appears they are prioritising Portuguese Carvalho.

There remains a desire for Vinicius in Holland, with both Ajax and PSV keen as they seek squad improvements this summer. But Celtic have plenty to offer as they return to the Champions League for the first time in five years.

And the coming days should offer clarity as the both Vinicius and Lommel team-mate Diego Rosa are currently in Manchester as they are set to find clarity on their future. Intrigue was added on Thursday when the Celtic-linked midfielder changed his bio to state he is a player for Pep Guardiola's side. He has never officially been announced by the English Premier League club so an announcement could be incoming, although a move to Scotland or the Netherlands appears more likely.

Celtic have made a fast start to the summer with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Benjamin Siegrist on board. Jota and Alexandro Bernabei are next with both expected to be announced in the coming days.
