Vinicius Souza to Celtic transfer latest as Champions League place could play key role in deal

Vinicius Souza wants a crack at Europe - with direct entry to the Champions League proper giving Celtic a fighting chance of his signature, according to a report.

The Daily Record report that the Hoops are in the running but still face a tough task of landing the Brazilian, with a host of options on the table.

Ange Postecoglou has a list of targets as he bids to strengthen his Celtic side once again with the 22-year-old featuring among them.

He is aiming to step up levels in his career journey with playing in continental football high on his agenda.

Genk boss Wouter Vrancken, who was in charge of Souza last season during his loan spell at KV Mechelan, is believed to be keen on a reunion.

But their lack of European football has reduced the chances of the pair working together again next season.

Bologna are also said to be keeping a close eye and while they are not involved in Europe next term, a crack at Serie A may appeal.

PSV and Fenerbahce will be playing in the Champions League qualifiers while both Club Brugge and Celtic are in the tournament proper and are in a position to offer a guaranteed shot at Europe's elite competition.

But the report states that as things stand, there is lots of work to be done to convince the 22-year-old that Scotland is the best place to be due to the high amounts of interest on offer elsewhere.

Celtic earned their spot in the group stages after recapturing the Premiership title from Rangers last season.

They also landed the Premier Sports Cup as Postecoglou secured a domestic double in his maiden campaign.
