Vinicius Souza puts Celtic on transfer alert as Champions League guarantee gives Parkhead deal a chance

Celtic target Vinicius Souza wants a crack at Europe – with direct entry to the Champions League giving the club a fighting chance for the deal.

But Record Sport understands the Scottish champions still face a tough task to land the Brazilian with a host of attractive options at his disposal as the chase for his signature hots up.

Souza is amongst the names on Ange Postecoglou ’s target list as he looks to strengthen the squad for next term.

The 22-year-old is aiming to step up the levels and action in the continental tournaments is high on the player’s agenda.

Genk boss Wouter Vrancken, who coached Souza during his loan spell at KV Mechelen last term, was keen to be reunited with the South American talent after taking the new job.

However, their lack of participation in Europe next season drastically reduces their hopes of landing his signature.

Bologna have looked closely at Souza and, although they are also not involved on the continent next term, the lure of Serie A could compensate if the Italians make a concrete move.

PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce are in the qualifiers for the Champions League and it is Club Brugge and Celtic who are in a position to offer a guarantee of action at the highest level.

However, Record Sport understands that, at this moment, there is much work to be done to convince the player to move to Glasgow due to the levels of interest elsewhere and opportunities available.
