Vinicius Jr lands knockout blow on Benfica after alleged racism incident

  • Real Madrid overcame a difficult week to beat Benfica 2-1 on Wednesday to progress through to the Champions League last 16 with a 3-1 aggregate victory.
  • Last week’s first leg was shrouded in controversy following after Vinicius Jr was allegedly racially abused by Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni, who was then provisionally suspended for Wednesday’s fixture.
  • Vinicius Jr scored a late winner in the second leg and celebrated like he did after his goal against Benfica last week.
  • Benfica had opened the scoring through Rafa Silva before Aurelien Tchouameni equalised on the night shortly after.
  • Real Madrid will now face either Sporting or Manchester City in the next round.
