Vincent Kompany’s Maxwel Cornet update with winger due for medical ahead of £17.5m West Ham move

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has revealed that winger Maxwel Cornet is not set to feature for the Clarets in their Championship match against Luton Town on Saturday.

Football.London understands that West Ham United today had a bid of £17.5million for Cornet accepted by the Clarets and that the Ivory Coast international is due in London on Thursday evening to complete a medical ahead of a move to the London Stadium.

Earlier on Thursday, Kompany spoke to the media about Cornet’s future ahead of the Clarets’ second Championship game of the season at home to Luton Town on Saturday afternoon. Asked about Cornet, Kompany admitted that his focus was on players available and that he does not expect to have Cornet with him this weekend.

"My focus has only been on incoming players and players who are available for the weekend. For me that is the priority," said Kompany, as published by Lancs Live. "At this moment in time Max is not going to be involved on Saturday and with the situation ongoing we will manage it."

Cornet’s move to West Ham, should the medical be completed as expected, would make him the club’s fifth signing of the summer after Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes and Gianluca Scamacca, also taking the club’s summer spending to around £100m.

Last season, Cornet scored nine times in 26 Premier League appearances for the Clarets but was unable to keep them in England’s top-flight. He would be the latest name among a big list of summer departues from Turf Moor if Cornet’s move goes through as expected, with James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil both joining Everton, Nick Pope joining Newcastle United, Ben Mee joining Brentford and Nathan Collins signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
