Vincent Kompany delivers fresh response to Chelsea and Tottenham managerial vacancy

Chelsea have narrowed down their managerial hunt to just three candidates: Mauricio Pochettino, Ange Postecoglou and Vincent Kompany. The latter has now issued a fresh response to rumours that he could become Graham Potter's replacement at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino is understood to be the leading candidate after holding positive talks with Chelsea representatives in recent weeks - despite previously managing Tottenham. Spurs are on the search for their own new manager after sacking Antonio Conte last month.

Cristian Stellini's future as the interim boss is being discussed by the club and he could be dismissed after a poor result against Newcastle at the weekend. Julian Nagelsmann has pulled out of the race to become the next Blues' boss after having 'serious concerns' about the west Londoners' recruitment process.

Kompany has impressed this season after leading Burnley back to the Premier League as they sit 10 points clear at the top of the Championship table with three games to play. The former Manchester City defender continues to shut down talk of him taking over at Chelsea, Tottenham or City at some stage in the near future.

When asked for his take on the rumours linking him with the likes of Chelsea and Spurs, Kompany told talkSPORT: “The only thing I see it as is a wasted question. I always feel sorry for the journalist that is asking me the question because you are getting nothing.

"I made this decision before even starting the season that I was never going to get involved in speculation. I think the biggest respect you can have is for people you are working with, to show that you are completely dedicated to what they have entrusted you to do.

"I don’t want to talk about anything else," he added. Earlier this week Kompany addressed the rumours and reiterated his focus of winning matches for the Turf Moor side.

He said: “I said I’m not engaging on any of these conversations. I have too much at this moment in time in my head in terms of wanting to win football matches - that’s the only thing I care about.”
