Viktor Gyokeres has praised Max Dowman following his “incredible” performance in Arsenal’s win over Everton.

The 16-year-old became the youngest ever Premier League scorer when he netted in stoppage time at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.

Prior to that, Dowman - sent on by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in the 74th minute - had a hand in the goal that broke the deadlock right before the game ticked into stoppage time.

It was the youngster’s cross to the back post which was misjudged by Jordan Pickford, resulting for an empty net for Gyokeres to finish into.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Gyokeres explained what makes Dowman such an “amazing player”, citing the teen sensation’s ability to make the right decision at crucial moments.

"It's incredible. You can see how he plays. He stays so calm and without fear every time he gets the ball,” Gyokeres said.

"He takes the right decision most of the time as well and with the goal, he definitely took the right one.

"He's an amazing player, it was a great goal for him and I'm so happy for him.

"If you always go into the games with the right attitude and with the right belief, together in the group then you can achieve anything.

"When Max came on, I think you can feel that. We are behind him like we are behind every one of us. We play good."

Victory for Arsenal moved them ten points clear at the top of the Premier League table and they will not play another league game until April 11 when they host Bournemouth.

Manchester City do have two games in hand on the Gunners, one of which is being played against West Ham on Saturday night.

Arsenal are next in action on Tuesday night, facing Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Emirates.
