The Minnesota Vikings have made their first signing of free agency. The team announced that they have signed S Theo Jackson.
Heading into free agency, the Vikings had multiple types of free agents to potentially re-sign. The most common free agents are unrestricted (four vested years) and restricted free agents (three vested years).
Jackson fell under a different category called exclusive rights free agents (one or two vested years). Those players are usually signed off of a practice squad after final cuts.
Jackson was a key contributor on the Vikings as a rotational player at safety in 2023. He played 125 snaps and amassed a Pro Football Focus grade of 67.6. He can do a little bit of everything at a capable level, which is perfect for a rotational player.
The contract that Jackson signed didn’t have the terms released but it is likely around $965k, which is what Blake Brandel and Khyiris Tonga signed for last year.
