This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.
The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.
The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

Strengths
Irving doesn’t have the thickest build for a running back, but he uses it well. He runs through arm tackles consistently and is difficult to bring down. Irving forced 63 missed tackles in 2023, which tied for ninth in the FBS. Through the hole, Irving keeps his pad level down and can bounce off of tacklers.
Irving has some juice. Can get around the edge and turn it upfield while also separating in the open field from defenders. He pairs it well with quick, nimble feet that allows him to evade tacklers with ease.
Irving shows good vision and decision-making in both zone and gap concepts. Knows how to successfully follow his blockers and take advantage of open space.
Route running shows a little bit of nuance. Understands how to manipulate defenders at the route stem and explode past them to create separation. Irving also had good hands. Just three drops on 58 targets in 2023 and seven drop on 102 targets.
Ball security is a huge plus for Irving. Only one fumble in 552 touches
Weaknesses
Pass blocking is an issue for Irving. His slight frame can give him issues when he tries to anchor against a blitzer. He also doesn’t use leverage well enough in those situations. Low man wins and Irving tends to stand up straight.
Vision is overall good, but Irving could be a little bit more consistent. He looks to be a tad decisive at times with his quick feet getting a little bit antsy. In that same vein. utilizing his burst in the hole needs to be a focus moving forward.
Irving’s frame isn’t going to be for everyone. He looks slight at 5100 and 195 lbs and at times lacks strength. There is plenty of space for him to add muscle but it can be a challenge to do so without losing explosiveness.
