Viking has added two new cruise itineraries to its existing four routes on America’s Great River.

The new routes expand Viking’s options for guests along the 3,341 mile stretch of the Mississippi.

Sailing on the 386-guest Viking Mississippi, new sailings include a 15-day Bayous, Blues & Bluegrass itinerary between New Orleans and Louisville.

Port stops include visits to the birthplace of the blues including Memphis and Greenville, the chance to step into American Civil War history in Vicksburg, and the opportunity to explore the Urban Bourbon Trail in Kentucky. Prices start from £10,190 per person and include flights, transfers, food, wifi, tips and one excursion in almost every port.

There is also a shorter eight-day Mississippi & Ohio River Explorer option between Memphis and Louisville where guests can discover the legacies of icons such as B. B. King during a stop in Memphis and there is even a chance to visit the home of Elvis Presley in Graceland. Cruise fares start from £5,095 per person and include flights, transfers, food, wifi, tips and one excursion in almost every port.

Alternative options include an eight-day Mississippi Delta Explorer along the grand homes of the Lower Mississippi and an eight-day Heartland of America route following the footsteps of Mark Twain from St. Louis to St. Paul along the Upper Mississippi. Prices start from around £5,000 per person.

Torstein Hagen, chairman and chief executive of Viking, said: “Wherever they are in the world, our guests are interested in the history, culture and culinary traditions of the destinations they visit.
