VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has got its first robotic drain cleaner. The civic body procured Bandicoot, a robotic machine engineered for cleaning any type of sewer manholes.
Around four sanitation workers died while cleaning blocked underground sewer lines in the last five years in VMC limits. The civic body had been focusing on bringing advanced robotic sewer cleaners after courts and the Union government passed orders imposing a ban on manual scavenging.
