Viewers slam 'beyond low' Harry and Meghan Netflix trailer for using Philip funeral clip

Viewers of the explosive Netflix series about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have slammed the latest trailer for using footage from the late Prince Philip’s funeral.

The 90-second teaser, which covers the final three episodes, sees Harry say that people were “happy to lie” to protect his brother Prince William, while Meghan claims she was “fed to the wolves”.

As Harry refers to the Prince of Wales, a shot of Buckingham Palace is shown and then a seconds-long clip of the pair together walking behind their grandfather's coffin at Windsor Castle in April 2021 alongside their cousin Peter Phillips is shown.

But some viewers of the new trailer have taken to Twitter to voice their outrage of using the clip from such a poignant event when they are hundreds of other clips and pictures that show Harry and William together.

One said: "I believe the picture of Prince William is from Prince Phillip’s funeral…. Harry is beyond low."

Another added: "And to use the footage from Prince Philip’s funeral with the voiceover condemning his brother. My mind can’t even process how grim that is."

While one commented: "Using footage of Prince Philip’s funeral for their grievance. Unconscionable."

Harry and Meghan do not have control over what goes in the trailer, which was released by Netflix, with whom they have an £88million deal with.

The new trailer starts with Harry, who is heard saying: “I wonder what would’ve happened to us had we not got out when we did.”

Meghan adds: “Our security was being pulled. Everyone in the world knew where we were.”

The Duke can also be heard saying: “I said, ‘We need to get out of here’.”

Images of a man with his face blurred, a plane flying, Harry filming a video on his phone and newspapers being made also appear on screen.

Meghan and Harry also address their relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales and the rift that has opened since their move to the US.

The Duchess tells the camera: “I wasn’t being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves.”

While an image of Buckingham Palace is shown, Harry adds: “They were happy to lie to protect my brother (William). They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”

It is unclear who the duke is referring to as “they”.

Clips of Harry and Meghan’s wedding are also played alongside news footage and newspaper headlines about the pair.

Meghan says: “It gave us a chance to create that home we always wanted.”

Harry adds: “I’ve always felt as though this was a fight worth fighting for,” as photographs and video footage of him and his family are shown.

In the first three episodes released last Thursday the Duke and Duchess of Sussex railed against their treatment by the Firm.

Harry signified an ”unconscious bias” of racism at the heart of the institution while Meghan labelled William and Kate emotionless after she hugged them at their first meeting.

Harry also claimed the royals asked why Meghan should be "protected" from media speculation, alleging he was told it was something all royal women - including Princess Diana and Kate - have to go through.

While Meghan said she was left unprepared for royal life as she didn't know what a walkabout was and wore muted colours to blend in.
