RTE viewers were left in stitches this evening by comedian Jason Byrne after he told a ‘priceless’ story about his father, who used to work in a factory.
Byrne spoke about all the life lessons he took from his father’s death, and began to reminisce about a story his dad would tell him about his working days.
He said his father and five of his friends were responsible for monitoring one gas button at work. Seeing that it was a one-man job, one stayed behind while five of them decided to head to the pub.

In 1986, there was a huge explosion at the brewery and Jason said: “My dad and his mates sauntered out of the pub, no phones then no nothing, they didn't have a clue what happened.
The comedian then explained that when the men arrived back at the scene, the fire brigade was there, and explained to the men that they believed there were five people trapped under the rubble.
“They saw the smoke and walked up, and my dad of course being my dad, a messer as well, walked up to the firemen and goes ‘what happened here?’”.
He insinuated that the men trapped were his dad and the four other men who had pottered off to the pub - unbeknownst to their employer.
He went on to explain: “My dad is standing there around the explosion, and he said ‘do you want a hand looking for them?’”.
Jason’s dad then said ‘here they are’, as he jokingly counted his friends, but as he was about to say that one person did stay behind, the last friend emerged from the other side of the brewery with a newspaper under his arm because he had gone to the toilet.
''My da reckoned that's why it blew up because nobody was watching the button,” he joked. “And here's the best Irish bit, and only in Ireland, the six of them got compensation.
“Compensation, and there was a dinner for Guinness's six brave men. The survivors, and they weren't even f*****g there!”
Viewers absolutely loved the story and took to Twitter during the show to hail the comedian, with one person writing:
“Jason's story from Guinnesses was just priceless. The compensation part had me in stitches. #tommytiernanshow”.
Another wrote: “Jason is a comedy genius #tommytiernanshow”.
He also seemed to win over a number of people who were doubtful of his comedic talents as one viewer wrote: “Normally not a Jason Byrne fan but really loved that interview on #tommytiernanshow”.
A second said: “That was very funny with Jason Byrne. TBH I’ve never really rated him as a comedian but he made me laugh out loud tonight. #tommytiernanshow”.
