Netflix viewers have been sent into a tizzy after discovering a NSFW scene in the suggestively titled series, A Man In Full.
The show is based on the Tom Woolfe book of the same name, and follows a billionaire (played by Jeff Daniels) whose A-list status is threatened when the bank decides to call in his loans… one of multiple eat the rich tales we’ve seen on screen of late.
That all seems pretty standard, but viewers got more than they bargained for in the closing moments of the final episode, with a scene that left very little to the imagination (except it wasn’t all that little).
If you didn’t quite get that innuendo, I should probably stop beating around the bush (ha!): A Man In Full features a full-frontal shot of an entirely erect penis just before the show cuts to black.
The owner of said peen is the banker character Raymond Peepgrass (portrayed by Tom Pelphrey), who takes Viagra in the final episode before dropping his bedsheet to reveal the results. Needless to say, the drug did its thing and audiences were left aghast.
Let me just answer what are probably your first two questions right away: yes, Pelphrey wore a prosthetic member to shoot the scene and no, I can’t provide the explicit shot here (it’s episode six, ya freaks!).
The series does include a warning about “sex, language, sex references [and] sexual images,” but the disclaimer was not provided before the scene in question.
Naturally, this led to pearl clutching in some corners of the internet and celebration in others, with audiences flocking to social media to share their reactions.
One viewer said they were “absolutely disgusted” by the onscreen peen, while another claimed Netflix had devolved into “softcore porn”.
“That is so incredibly uncalled-for,” a third person wrote, “no one wants to see that”. While those viewers had a particularly hard time watching the scene (sorry), others were more complimentary.
“I applaud the nudity in A Man in Full,” one fan wrote, adding that they thought it was a “more comedic” moment that felt “justified”.
Of course, since we’re all a bunch of filthy animals, it’s not the first time full-frontal nudity has caused fanfare.
Barry Keoghan was the subject of much chatter in the wake of *that* Saltburn scene (yes, it actually was his), and so too was Ben Affleck (in Gone Girl), Adam Demos (in Sex/Life) and Jonathan Sadowkski (also in Sex/Life).
Oh, and Chris Evans was almost going to voice a talking penis in Pam & Tommy.
I promise I knew all of that just from researching for this article… it’s not like all those scenes were at the top of my mind or anything.
