Viewer of How the Grinch Stole Christmas spots glaring blunder that has been missed for years

A viewer of the festive film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, has pointed out a blunder they spotted that occurs in the movie, which fans have continually missed since its release in 2000.

The holiday classic stars Jim Carrey in the title role. The actor, 60, had to transform his appearance completely to get into character as the Grinch.

While donning a green, hairy suit, prosthetics changed the actor’s face completely, lining it with wrinkles and a turned-up nose.

However, one viewer took to social media site TikTok to point out a continuity mistake they spotted in the film - the Grinch’s eyes changed colour in one scene.

It was during the scene where the Grinch was wreaking havoc in Whoville that his usual amber-coloured eyes appeared to be brown.

The mistake wasn’t picked up on by the makeup department for the film or the crew, making it to the movie.

TikTok user @redcobweb said: “Every time I watch the Grinch I notice this one little mistake they made whether they forgot to either put his contacts in or to edit them in afterwards.

The eagle-eyed fan posted the blunder to TikTok (redcobweb/TikTok)

“So just Jim Carrey’s brown eyes are just there. And in the next scene, they’re back to that.”

Fans of the movie were quick to add their own thoughts, with one TikTok user writing: “No wonder he looks so different in that scene I can never understand why… now I know." Another said: "JUST SCREAMED I NEVER SAW THIS AHAHAH."

"That’s surprisingly scary without the contacts," said a third.

While a fourth posted: "Watched this so many times and I’m ashamed I never noticed."

It’s not the first realisation that fans of the film have made in recent years, with some sparking a debate on Twitter about the movie’s setting.

In the opening credits, the narration explains that Whoville is located inside a snowflake – a detail that many viewers have overlooked.

One shocked user exclaimed: "DID Y’ALL KNOW THE GRINCH TAKES PLACE IN A SNOWFLAKE!!??????."

A second Twitter user admitted: "'Never realised that the Grinch lives on a snowflake."

"Anyone else completely forget that Whoville was on a mf snowflake?" Another questioned. "The Grinch must have been so small."
