Motorcyclist believed to have crashed at high speed before fleeing scene

Police are seeking video footage of a motorbike rider accused of fleeing police at speed and crashing in the process.

Last Saturday night, patrolling ACT police officers observed a motorcyclist speeding while turning on to Canberra Avenue in Fyshwick.

Police allege when they activated their lights and sirens, the rider failed to stop and was last seen turning on to Newcastle Street.

About five minutes later, the black motorcycle was found crashed on the same street just short of the Gladstone Street intersection.

"The rider is believed to have failed to navigate the roundabout and fled the area prior to police arrival," an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage that captures the incident. This includes any businesses in the vicinity of Newcastle Street, Isa Street, or Pirie Street that may have CCTV footage.

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference number 7884565. Information can be provided anonymously.
