Video of violent assault shows boy kicked and punched on the ground in Irish town

An Irish community have been left horrified after a video surfaced online of a boy being "violently kicked and punched on the ground."

Footage of the incident which occurred in Co Galway on Sunday shows the boy lying on the group while the group surrounded him and proceeded to deal a series of blows.

An eyewitness who shared the video captured in the Townparks area of Tuam condemned the "disgraceful" scenes and explained how she helped the young man escape.

She wrote: "Absolutely disgraceful scenes in Supervalu carpark at 7pm this evening."

"A gang of 14/15 year old boys started brawling with each other.

"A young lad was knocked to the ground and as 2 lads punched and kicked his lower body another lad (who I know from Palace Fields) kicked him violently about the head.

"I drove my car towards the gang to frighten and distract the attackers which enabled the young man to get on his feet holding his head while the main attacker was dragged away by his friends. Yes boys will be boys but no excuses for that behaviour. There could well be a young lad in hospital tonight with serious head injuries."

In the video, seen by Galway Beo, the boy can be seen in the doorway of a shop surrounded by five other teens who start swinging with their feet and fists as he lay on the ground.

The boy's mother thanked everyone for their support, especially the person who was at the scene and helped.

She said: "My young fella is in hospital now. He's only 14 years old due to the disgraceful actions of these older teenagers"

A Garda spokeswoman told Galway Beo: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault which occurred in Tuam, Co.Galway at approximately 7.15pm on Sunday evening, 9th October 2022. A male youth later attended Galway University Hospital to receive treatment following the incident."
