Video of Co Tyrone school pupil’s version of Adele hit goes viral

A student at a secondary school in Co Tyrone said she has been overwhelmed by the reaction to a video of her singing a hit song by Adele.

Leah Keenan, a Year 14 student at St Patrick’s College, Dungannon, was filmed giving an amazing performance of ‘Make You Feel My Love’ at the school’s annual prizegiving ceremony.

The video has been shared more than 500 times on Facebook with hundreds of people leaving positive comments for Leah on the school’s page.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Leah said it was one of the first times she had ever sang in public on her own.

“I had recently done singing lessons but haven’t really been singing apart from in my room,” Leah said.

“I didn’t have any idea how many people would have seen it. I don’t think there is a comment I haven’t read and it’s nice to get them.

“I was really nervous and I knew I was because my legs couldn’t stop shaking so I had to steady myself a wee bit and you can see that in the video.

“I would like to sing some more in public but I still restrict myself a wee bit just because of the confidence thing I guess.

Leah is involved with the school choir and is currently studying for her A Level exams, and hopes to be a mental health nurse one day.

School principal Catherine McHugh said it became clear on the day that everyone present was listening to ‘something special’.

“We knew that day by the response of the audience and the students that something really special was happening that day,” the principal said.

“We always knew Leah could sing but she wouldn’t have been up for public singing until recently.

“We did a community event recently with another school choir and her talent became really clear at that, and we knew we had something a bit special with Leah.”
