Video game company announces 80 new Dublin jobs

Video game studio Black Shamrock is expanding its Dublin operations with 80 new jobs planned by the end of 2023.

The company, which designs action adventure games for PCs and consoles, first came to Ireland in 2017. It's base is located in the Guinness Enterprise Centre.

The future positions will be in areas such as engineering, animation, graphics and design. The company specialises in AAA games, which are studio-created video games made on large budgets with significant resources.

Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise Leo Varadkar welcomed the company’s expansion plans, which will bring its total headcount in Ireland to 200 staff. He added that the news was promising following the recent job losses amongst Dublin’s Twitter and Meta staff.

Varadkar said: “The news is particularly welcome at a time when other tech companies are announcing job losses. It also shows that the tax changes recently introduced for the digital gaming industry are working.”

Black Shamrock is owned by Virtuos, one of the world’s largest gaming developers. Its CEO previously confirmed they began operations in Ireland due to the pool of talented and diverse staff available for hire.

CEO of Virtuos Gilles Langourieux said: “In 2017, we saw the opportunity to expand into Dublin in partnership with Black Shamrock, which has proven to be a good fit with Virtuos' company culture of innovation and creativity. Through Black Shamrock, we hope to continuously enable the long-term development of local talent and the expansion of the games industry in Ireland.”
