Video from the stands showed what led to the game-delaying incident between Jurickson Profar and Dodgers fans

The Padres took Sunday’s Game 2 of the NLDS in emphatic fashion against the Dodgers, and if San Diego takes the series, it will likely look at that seventh inning as the true turning point.

The game was briefly delayed after a furious Jurickson Profar started to leave his spot in left field after a fan threw a baseball in his direction. Profar had already robbed a home run earlier in the game and trolled some fans in that left-field section. What was intended as some friendly competitive banter turned ugly when a fan decided to throw a ball at Profar.

We saw exactly how it unfolded in video taken from that left-field section of the stands.

Again, it started out as banter. A smiling Profar handed a ball to a fan who immediately chucked it back towards the infield. But when another fan threw a different baseball in Profar’s direction, the incident escalated. Security got involved and worked to eject someone from the section. We could also see Profar exchange words from a distance with fans in a different area.

Of course, had that first fan just kept the baseball, it probably would have prevented the entire delay from unfolding. There’s really no excuse to throw baseballs onto the field — even the visiting-team home runs should remain in the stands.

Game 2 showed why.
