MUMBAI: When the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) decided to match the BCCI's prize money (Rs 5cr) immediately after Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy, beating Vidarbha in the final at the Wankhede Stadium last week, Mumbai head coach Omkar Salvi had hailed the move saying that the handsome prize money (Rs 10 cr) will help a lot of the players who didn't have jobs.
A case in point is pacer Mohit Avasthi, who has played 21 First-Class matches for Mumbai, in which he has taken 72 [email protected]. Though he missed out on the final due to a hamstring injury, Avasthi, who was the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai this season (31 wickets in eight [email protected]), played a massive role in Mumbai clinching their 42nd Ranji title this season. However, the 31-year-old with an incisive inswinger still doesn't have a permanent job.
