Victor Radley did "the right thing" after addressing scrap with Leeds Rhinos star James Bentley

Victor Radley has broken his silence on the incident with Leeds Rhinos star James Bentley, insisting he stood up for people when they were in need. Radley, a star for England during the Rugby League World Cup, was allegedly involved in an incident with Leeds Rhinos and Ireland back-rower Bentley that turned physical.

It was reported that Radley headbutted Bentley after he insulted England head coach, Shaun Wane. It was claimed the incident happened after Bentley abused Wane for not selecting him for England. It is unknown why Bentley was in attendance but it was alleged that Bentley left a pub where members of the England setup were in attendance but subsequently returned. That is when Radley is alleged of headbutting Bentley, who is said to have been bleeding and required stitches afterwards.

Radley, who was adjudged to have acted in self-defence following an investigation and cleared of wrongdoing, spoke of the incident to the Daily Telegraph.

“When it happened, I rang the people that I needed to and once I spoke to them I was good as gold,” Radley said. “He (Trent Robinson) wasn’t angry or whatnot. Robbo is someone you can turn to, he’s good with his advice. His advice has always been you stick up for yourself, you stick up for your mates at the same time.

“It’s the same as him, and my parents, ever since I was young it has been, you stand up for yourself and you stand up for someone that needs you stand up for them. But he did want me to have a look at the situation and think about how I could avoid it, and I did that. And we spoke about how not to end up in that situation.”

Addressing the incident further, he said: “I never want to get myself in those situations but sometimes you end up in a scrap and I need to make sure I am not in those situations. But I found myself in it.

“I know I’m a good person and did the right thing."
