Victor Osimhen has told Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag what he wants to hear

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and Victor Osimhen scoring goals.

The Napoli striker, 24, scored his 24th and 25th goals of the season on Sunday to help the Italian heavyweights further cement their position at the summit of Serie A with a 4-0 win over Torino. Napoli are now a whopping 19 points clear at the top of the table with just 11 games left to play, meaning they are on course to clinch their first league title since 1990.

Osimhen's double against Torino marked his second brace in his last two games and his 12th goal in his last 11 appearances in all competitions, meaning he is continuing to make enormous strides under boss Luciano Spalletti. The Nigerian is establishing himself as one of the most promising and sought-after strikers in Europe.

He is being linked with a plethora of clubs ahead of the summer transfer window and it is little wonder that Manchester United have earmarked him as a possible candidate to become the new face of their forward line. United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News back in November, have pinpointed Osimhen as a target and are interested in the prospect of bringing him to Old Trafford, even though Harry Kane is currently Erik ten Hag's preferred target.

United, who booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup with Sunday's 3-1 win over Fulham at Old Trafford, are set to prioritise the addition of a new striker ahead of next season and plan to invest a sizeable amount of money in securing a new goal-getter. Osimhen, who joined Napoli from French club Lille in July 2020, is one of the most exciting strikers in Europe and is generating a wave of attention with his eye-catching performances and exploits in front of goal.

Such is Napoli's position at the top of the Serie A table and still being in with a chance of reaching the Champions League final this season, the Italian club are not likely to be under as much pressure to sell their star asset come the summer. They have already warned that it will take an astronomical fee to consider letting go of the Nigeria international.

However, given that Spurs are likely to be even more reluctant to let go of Kane, despite him being out-of-contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2024, Osimhen could be a cheaper option for United. Many supporters have pinpointed the athletic centre-forward as their preferred choice and believe he would be better suited to the way that Ten Hag likes to play, given he has often claimed that United are better when Anthony Martial, who is not short of speed, is at the top end of the pitch.

Although Osimhen has regularly reiterated that he is currently happy in Naples, he did recently admit that it is his "dream" to play in the Premier League. That should, even though United will have to deal with Napoli and their demands first, make any hopes the Reds might have of signing him this summer that little bit easier.

Speaking earlier this month, Osimhen said: "I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world (Serie A) is an amazing feeling for me. A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I'm in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.

"I'm working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday but, like I said, it's a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well."

Judging by how much Ten Hag takes character and attitude into account when selecting his transfer targets, Osimhen's hunger to play in England could tick a key box for the Dutchman. The striker is clearly a player with massive potential that could serve United for perhaps up to a decade, considering he does not turn 25 until December.

He is a quick, athletic, modern-day striker, meaning he would tick a lot of boxes for United. He is scoring goals at a rapid rate and has more direct goal contributions this season (30) than he does appearances (29).

He is an outstanding talent and has made it crystal clear that he wants to test himself in England. The more goals he scores, the more United's hunger for him should grow.
