Vicky Phelan has said she feels "really good" at the moment as she shared the latest update on her health.
The CervicalCheck campaigner will be awarded the Freedom of Limerick on Thursday night and is "honoured" to receive the accolade.
Ms Phelan, who lives in Annacotty but hails from Co Kilkenny, returned home in October after months in the US undergoing a clinical trial.
She previously admitted that she wasn't sure if she would make it to Christmas, but in an update on Thursday, the mother-of-two gave a positive assessment of her health.
"I'm good at the moment, the hair is starting to come back," she said.
"It's actually coming back jet black, I've never had jet black hair before, I'm a brunette but I've never been jet black so it's weird that way your hair can come back totally different.
"It could come back curly, it could come back any way, we don't know what way it will be, but it's great it's starting to come back.
"I do feel a lot better at the moment, there has been a lot of adjustment with my medication over the last number of weeks.
"But I've got a great team, I have a great palliative team and I have a great oncology team and they both talk to each other frequently so they know what everyone is doing.
"So I'm good at the moment."
Ms Phelan thanked the Irish public for their "phenomenal" support in recent years, especially while she was trying the experimental cancer treatment in the States.
"When you’re told there are no other options and you come across someone like me who will resist that and keep going and four years later I am still alive. I think it gives other people hope," she told RTE's Morning Ireland.
"I talk about the hard side to living with an illness like this too and I think people appreciate that it's not all roses in the garden.
"This is a hard road and it’s not for everybody. You take the small wins, when you can get up and not be in pain. Some people don’t get that.
"Even to get out for a walk for me is a big thing because I’ve terrible pain at times in my back, so just even to get out for a walk is a win. That’s what people appreciate, I’m giving my story warts and all."
The ceremony to mark Ms Phelan's Freedom of Limerick award will be streamed live on Limerick.ie from 6.30pm.
