Vice President Kamala Harris Wins Guam Straw Poll

Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris Vice waves

Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election straw poll in Guam, as per unofficial results. Harris secured a victory over Trump with a margin of 49% to 46%, garnering 13,510 votes compared to Trump's 12,624. It is important to note that Guam does not possess any Electoral College votes, rendering these results purely symbolic.

Despite Harris's win, the results unveiled a notable 10-percentage point shift away from the Democrats in contrast to the outcomes of the 2020 election. During the previous election, President Biden clinched Guam with 55% of the vote, while Trump received 42%.

Although the straw poll's outcome does not hold any bearing on the actual election results, historical data reveals an intriguing trend. Every winner of the Guam straw poll from 1980 to 2012 eventually went on to secure the presidency. Notably, in 2016, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton emerged victorious in the poll, yet Trump was elected as president that year.

Furthermore, the unofficial results from Guam's election suggest that the Republicans are poised to claim the majority in the territory's legislature, as reported by the Pacific Daily News. Republican Delegate Jim Moylan is set to retain his position as Guam's delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.
