Vic company fined over illegal RAT imports

The TGA has fined a Victorian company for importing RATs that weren't on an approved register. (AAP)

A Victorian company has been fined for the unlawful importation of COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests into Australia.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration alleges TCF Trading Co Pty Ltd imported 70,000 units of the tests that were not on the allowed Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods at the time.

Under the Therapeutic Goods Act (1989) products including COVID-19 RATs must be included on the register before they can be legally imported into the country.

Australia moved towards RAT testing for COVID-19 over the polymerase chain reaction testing it had used throughout the pandemic in January.

The TGA website provides a list of all COVID-19 rapid antigen self-tests that are approved in Australia.
