Vets' heatwave pet warning over maggots that burrow into skin

The temperature is soaring and it's not just humans who have to worry about the potential dangers of the heatwave. Vets are today urging pet owners to make sure their animals are safe in the sun.

A particular alarm has been sounded over rabbits, which are at risk of flystrike, heatstroke and death in the heatwave emergency. Experts from Vets4Pets, the veterinary branch of Pets at Home, have shared their advice to keep rabbits safe, happy and healthy amidst the severe temperatures.

Dr Samantha Butler-Davies, Veterinary Clinical Services Manager at Vets4Pets, said: “While some of us will be looking forward to enjoying the sunshine, the warmer weather can be incredibly dangerous for our furry friends including rabbits and other small animals such as guinea pigs.
