Veterans commemorate Armed Forces Week

Veterans with sight loss supported by Sight Scotland Veterans marked Armed Forces Week at the charity’s Linburn Centre activity hub in Wilkieston.

Linburn Centre staff pulled together a week of classic summer gala stall games, from hook-a-duck to soft archery - and catered the event with sweets to celebrate and thank the attending veterans for their service.

Military Museum Scotland presented a pop-up display - complete with military vehicles in the Linburn Centre grounds.

There was also musical entertainment throughout the week, including live performances from the charity Music in Hospitals and Care.

Gillian McDonald, head of Wellbeing at Sight Scotland Veterans, said: “It’s been wonderful to be able to mark Armed Forces Day at our centres again with a week of special activities.

“Those who serve in the armed forces give so much for their country.

“Sight Scotland Veterans is proud to support veterans in Scotland who have sight loss to enable them to maintain their independence, live well with visual impairment and continue to make new connections.”

Sight Scotland Veterans provides expert support to veterans with sight loss – including those who served National Service.

The charity can also provide advice and support to relatives and carers of veterans with sight loss.
