Veteran NYT reporter has police called on her at Republican lawmaker campaign event

  • New York Times reporter Tracey Tully says she was denied entry to a New Jersey campaign fundraiser for Republican Rep. Tom Kean and had local police called on her as a suspected trespasser.
  • The event, held at Hawk Point Golf Club in Washington Township, featured House Speaker Mike Johnson and admitted other journalists from Fox News and local television.
  • Responding officers quickly resolved the situation after realizing Tully was simply a reporter waiting in the parking lot to conduct an interview.
  • House Speaker Johnson briefly spoke with Tully outside the event, suggesting Kean should have been more transparent with voters regarding his recent three-month absence for depression treatment.
  • Kean did not publicly address the incident directly, though he subsequently claimed on social media that he maintains extensive local press engagements.
