'Very good player' - Manchester United loanee Will Fish’s three biggest qualities highlighted

Hibernian manager Lee Johnson was full of praise for Manchester United loanee Will Fish after he scored his first-ever senior goal during a 6-0 victory over Aberdeen.

Fish has been on loan at Easter Road since the beginning of the season but the 19-year-old has so far made only six appearances for the Scottish Premier League club. In recent weeks, the teenager has played a more vital role for Hibs.

This weekend he managed his first 90 minutes for the Edinburgh club, an achievement the centre-back marked with a goal in stoppage time to top off an incredible victory. Despite having not played much since arriving in Scotland, Johnson is a big fan of the defender and explained his qualities at full-time.

Johnson told the media: "I thought Will Fish really showed everything he’s about today for a young player. He’s a very, very good player, obviously it helps playing next to Paul [Hanlon] because Paul has got the experience – Paul’s a good talker, there is a natural balance there.

"If you wanted to build a centre-half, I’m telling you, Will Fish is what you’d build – he’s quick, he’s strong and he’s good on the ball. I felt he’d been a bit timid in his first couple of games and not played forward anywhere near enough.

"Aberdeen allowed him to have the ball and he made good forward-thinking decisions – there was no fear in his decisions. I thought he showed just really good pitch personality today, and for him and us that’s a really big step, and I’m looking forward to watching him play between now and the end of the season."

This is not Fish's first loan spell away from Old Trafford. In the last campaign, Fish had half a season at Stockport County but he would only feature twice in the National League side before returning to the Reds in January.
