Republican Gov. Phil Scott of Vermont has officially announced his candidacy for a fifth two-year term in office. In his statement, Scott emphasized the ongoing work needed to further improve the state, highlighting his administration's efforts to boost the economy, enhance affordability, and provide protection for vulnerable populations during his four terms as Governor.

Scott's approach has been characterized by a commitment to bipartisan problem-solving, aiming to transcend political divides for the betterment of the state. However, he expressed concerns about the current imbalance in the Democrat-controlled Legislature, citing disagreements over fiscal matters such as spending and taxes, leading to several vetoes of legislative bills in recent years.

Despite these challenges, Scott has garnered recognition for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his unique blend of fiscal conservatism and social liberalism. Notably, he distanced himself from former President Donald Trump and supported President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

In his reelection campaign, Scott called for increased support from voters to elect legislators who align with his vision for the state. He emphasized the importance of civic engagement, urging Vermonters to actively participate in shaping the future of their communities.

Reflecting on his political journey, Scott acknowledged the influence of his mentor, former Democratic Senator Dick Mazza, who supported him since his early days as a state senator over two decades ago. Mazza, who recently resigned due to health reasons, stood by Scott as he declared his intention to seek another term, a moment that Scott described as a profound honor.
