CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR: After a largely silent electorate painted a hazy picture with virtually no signs of a clear wave in favour of any party, the results of the Punjab assembly election will make everything clear on Thursday.
Political parties are vying for the magic figure of 59 in the 117-member House in an unprecedented five-cornered contest. The high-stakes battle had the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pitching the ‘badlav’ (change) slogan, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) hoping to regain the vote bank it lost in 2017 after 10 years of government, Congress pinning its hopes on its SC chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s 111-day performance, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hoping to expand its horizon and former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh keen to ensure defeats of his Congress detractors.
