Riley Jones apologised to Vera fans at the weekend, as he wasn't able to watch along with them as the latest episode of the much loved drama went out on ITV. And he had viewers urging him to stay safe when he revealed the reason why.
North East actor Riley has been part of the furniture on Vera since series three, playing a key role in each episode as DC Mark Edwards. And, when he appears on screen in the hit ITV show, he often takes to Twitter to respond to comments from people watching at home, offering clarification over the new episodes when Vera returned to screen last month, after a near year long wait for the last two parts of series 11.
There is now just one episode left of Vera's latest run - gripping series finale The Darkest Evening, which will air in the drama's famous 8pm slot on Sunday, February 19.The penultimate instalment of the new batch of episodes and the third of series 12 - Blue - was on ITV at the weekend but, unlike in week gone by, Riley wasn't at home to see the action unfold as Brenda Blethyn's DCI Stanhope had to get to the bottom of the grisly death of a police officer as Wallsend played a starring role in the action and a Peak Practice star made an unexpected TV comeback.

He warned Vera fans he wouldn't be on hand to offer any answers or reactions to what was on screen, posting a photo of snow covered mountain on his Twitter page and writing: "Enjoy tonight’s episode of #Vera folks! Unfortunately I won’t be able to tweet along as I’ll be hurtling down the side of a mountain. And when I say hurtling I mean slowly sliding and trying not to fall over!"
After finding out why he wouldn't be around to join in the Twitter talk around Sunday's Vera, one of Riley's followers wrote: "Stay safe and enjoy," with a second echoing those sentiments as they replied: "No broken bones! Enjoy"
