Vera's Kenny Doughty gives major update on new series as fans speculate with 'break'

Kenny Doughty has left excited Vera fans speculating after announcing a 'break' in filming on the ITV drama.

Kenny has earned himself legions of fans since taking on the role of Aiden Healy, DCI Vera Stanhope's on screen partner in the much loved show. Every time he's in the region for filming, Kenny shares his love for the area, often posting stunning views on his social media accounts.

The actor has been in the area a lot of late, as filming took place on Vera series 12, just as a special fan event he and co-star Brenda Blethyn will be appearing at broke box office records at Playhouse Whitley Bay, by becoming the venue's fastest selling show in its history. The Viva Vera night, which will also welcome author Ann Cleeves to the stage, sold out within an hour of going on sale, with many disappointed fans left empty handed as they appealed to Brenda to try and get another night sorted.

And, on the same day that leading lady Brenda took to Twitter to share her excitement at filming an episode by acclaimed screen writer Sally Abbott, Kenny announced that Vera filming had come to an end, well, at least for now anyway. Posting on Twitter, he wrote: "And that’s a wrap for a little while on Vera. Congratulations to our amazingly hard working & talented crew…. But especially my buddy Brenda & cast. Enjoy your breaks & see you soon for more filming! Keep safe."

Many Vera fans were quick to reply to Kenny's post, with some speculating that production had now finished on series 12, while others took it to mean that there is already another one on the horizon. One replied: "Brilliant, can't wait for another Vera series. Love all the cast.," with another commenting: "Saw you filming yesterday across from our offices. I was thrilled to see you and Brenda, I love Vera!"

A third responded: "oooOoooo.....does this mean there's a new series of Vera coming??" while referring to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the last two episodes of series 11, which still haven't aired, after the run had already been disrupted by Covid, another of Kenny's followers tweeted: "I hope we don't have to wait til next year for these!"
