Brenda Blethyn has gone on the record about what she regards as Vera 'best kept secret' as filming continues on series 13 of the hit ITV drama.
Brenda has now been leading the cast of the much loved show for the last 12 years, as no nonsense sleuth DCI Stanhope, with her famous alter ego and her team, on a mission to get to the bottom of all manner of murder mysteries, with Brit winner and local icon Sam Fender even playing a dead youngster caught up in the drama in series one.
After a gripping end to Vera series 12, with feature length finale The Darkest Evening, it was announced earlier this year that the programme will be returning for a 13th series, as David Leon makes a surprise return to the fold as Joe Ashworth, nearly a decade after is exit from Vera left leading lady Brenda heartbroken.

Other changes to the Vera cast for the next run, include the departures of Kenny Doughty and Ibinabo Jack and the arrival of newcomers, including ex Hollyoaks villain Rhiannon Clements as DC Steph Duncan.
And now Brenda has spoken about one of the things she loves the most about Vera - the North East and all the locations she's got to film in so far. Speaking on /James Whales' podcast, Brenda said: I'd never been there before Vera and I love it there. It's the best-kept secret and it's absolutely... The territory is beautiful, but the people are nice too. I really like them!"
Production on the new series of Vera has taken the cast and crew all over the region so far, with them being spotted in the likes of Hexham, Ryton, Wylam and North Shields.
