Vera's Brenda Blethyn reassures concerned viewers after nasty fall in latest episode

Brenda Blethyn has assured people that her dramatic tumble in Sunday night's Vera was scripted after it left fans' hearts in their mouths.

The third episode of series 11 saw Brenda' s famous on screen sleuthing alias Vera and her team had to investigate the death of school teacher Lizzy Swann.

At first it looked like her death was a tragic accident but, after speaking to Lizzy's family, DCI Stanhope was soon leading a murder inquiry as the victim's numerous feuds were laid bare.

One of the scenes from the episode - As The Crow Flies - saw Vera and faithful sidekick DS Aiden Healy, make their way down a cliff side to get to a beach below.

As cameras rolled Brenda and co-star Kenny, in the role of Aiden, made their way down some steps, Brenda took a tumble.

In an interview ahead of the episode, Kenny, who'd been kept in the dark about the stunt, admitted he was worried and swiftly shouted out: "Oh my god are you alright?!" before Brenda told him: "Of course I'm alright. I'm acting!"

Having witnessed the slip on screen, people watching Vera on Sunday night instantly had the same concerns as Kenny, with a few going direct to Brenda on Twitter to make sure she was alright.

One fan tweeted her to ask: "Was it in the script or a genuine slip?" to which Brenda replied: "In the script."

Brenda's followers were quick to share their concerns in the comments thread underneath.

Fellow actress Emma Samms told her: "It was a really good slip!" while a fan posted: "That was such good acting I genuinely thought you’d slipped & they decided to keep it in."

Equally convinced Brenda had actually taken a nasty tumble, another responded: "My husband laughed at me because I screamed when you slipped, I thought you really had!"

A fourth told Brenda: "I thought it was a genuine slip too. I've nearly gone A over T many a time on those steps"

The end of Sunday's episode of Vera came with disappointing news for fans of the long running drama as it won't be on screens this weekend.

The new series of Good Karma Hospital goes into Vera's usual 8pm time slot, with new thriller Trigger Point following at 9pm.

There are still two episodes left of Vera series 11 but, as yet, ITV haven't revealed when they will eventually air.
