Brenda Blethyn has offered a glimmer of hope to Vera fans who were left gutted they couldn't get their hands on tickets for the Viva Vera event in Whitley Bay.
Given the popularity of the long-running ITV crime drama, Viva Vera, a celebration of all things DCI Stanhope at the Playhouse in September was always going to be a big draw, especially after BAFTA winner Brenda, her co-star Kenny Doughty and author Ann Cleeves were all confirmed to appear. Bit no-one could have envisaged the frenzy that occurred on Friday morning as fans clamoured to get their hands on tickets.
Those keen to get their hands on tickets had the option to purchase online or queue up at the Playhouse box office to get some, with celebrated writer Ann spotted among those who lined up at the venue, in the hope of securing some Vera fever well and truly gripped the coast as, within an hour of tickets being made available, the Playhouse declared Viva Vera had broken all sale records, by becoming its fastest selling show ever.

And the rush for tickets meant that many lovers of all things Vera were left empty handed and disappointed, as those who did manage to get some were left both delighted and relieved in equal measure. One of the many who failed to get tickets made a plea to leading lady Brenda on Twitter for another night to be added, writing: "Are there plans that you all might do an extra Viva Vera night at the Whitley Bay Playhouse? Tickets sold out...I was working so couldn't try until 1pmI'm sure it would sell out too."
Quickly to reply and leaving the door open for the potential of a second show, Brenda replied: "The enthusiasm for the event is truly humbling. I’ll see what we can do re another event later in the the year. I’ll have a chat with the team."
There were plenty of responses to Brenda's post, with another disappointed follower reacting: "Really hope there's another event. We were gutted when we couldn't get a ticket. Fingers crossed we will get to see you soon" and another telling her: "That would be wonderful... you are all so loved. Here’s to Vera!"
