Vera Pauw has named her 23-player squad for the Women’s World Cup and there are a few surprises among those included and omitted.
There is heartache for Manchester United Aoife Mannion and full-back Megan Campbell, as well as Liverpool striker Leanne Kiernan and Birmingham City midfielder Jamie Finn.
West Ham’s Izzy Atkinson is the surprise inclusion. She wasn’t named in the original 29-strong training squad but was drafted in shortly afterwards.
Shamrock Rovers forward Abbie Larkin gets the nod ahead of Kiernan, who missed most of last season’s WSL campaign through injury.
Pauw was eager to finalise her squad in advance of next week's friendly against France (Thursday July 6), with the squad due to fly out to Brisbane the following day.
The Ireland manager will address the media later this morning to discuss her squad and the reasons behind some of her selections.
