All the most stylish looks from the Venice Film Festival red carpet (and beyond)

Taylor russel venice film festival.

Officially back after a year-long hiatus due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the 81st annual Venice Film Festival is well on its way. Cannes Film Festival's younger sibling is no small occasion, with some of this year's premiers being Hollywood's most hyped upcoming releases (Nicole Kidman's Babygirl to Lady Gaga's Joker and social media's ultimate favourite Beetlejuice).

The action doesn't just happen on screen: the Venice Film Festival red carpet is the ideal stage for celebrities to flex their fashion credentials and pull out some serious must-see looks.

The Best Beauty Looks From Venice Film Festival

Yes, we know. Technically, this is a best dressed red carpet and photocall story, but we wouldn't be fulfilling our journalistic endeavours if we didn't give you the whole picture. When it comes to dressing for the red carpet, your glam (a.k.a makeup and hair) is just as important as the clothes themselves, so naturally it's only right to mention our favourites.

Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton regularly turns out look after look, with make-up always nailed and this red carpet season is no exception—case in point, photo-finish skin, rosy cheeks and a great red lip.

But, it wasn't just the red carpet where Swinton's make-up stood out from the crowds. The star's new film, 'The Room Next Door' which premiered at the festival received a 17-minute-long standing ovation and includes beautifully shot scenes that are sure to live on forever. Part of this beauty is a killer make-up look. Makeup artist, Morag Ross created a striking look that includes the Lisa Eldridge True Velvet Lip Colour in Velvet Ribbon.

Quickly becoming the go-to lipstick for the big screen, this isn't the first time we've seen this lipstick in film (appearing in titles such as Barbie, Being the Ricardos and French Exit). Its Brand founder, Lisa Eldridge says, "This was the first lipstick and shade I created for my brand—it’s my baby, and I couldn’t be more proud that time and time again, incredible makeup artists that I admire rely on this shade to translate beautifully on screen."

Everything from the sleek hair to metallic eyes and powdery pink lips are stunning on Iris.

If you were looking for a sign to cut your fringe, let this be it. Taylor's wispy fringe (aka wispy bangs) feels like a modern take on Audrey Hepburn's micro fringe.

Lady Gaga

Gaga doing what Gaga does best, turning out a striking fashion look with beauty to match—glasslike skin, directional hair and a killer red lip.
