Venezuelans gathered in front of the White House in Washington today to protest in solidarity with the opposition's claim of victory in the presidential elections. The demonstrators, chanting 'Until the end,' emphasized their determination to assert their rights as Venezuelans following last Sunday's elections.
One protester, who has been in the U.S. since 2018, highlighted the significance of the global rally, stating, 'Today is the most important day for us. A worldwide rally. In every corner, in every space of our world to assert our rights as Venezuelans.'
The protesters called for international support while singing the Venezuelan national anthem and demanding 'freedom.' They carried signs with messages such as 'SOS Venezuela,' 'Stop Maduro,' and 'Edmundo President.'
Washington was just one of the many cities in the U.S. and worldwide that organized demonstrations today in solidarity with the calls from opposition leaders María Corina Macahado and Edmundo González. This week, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken recognized Gonzalez as the winner of the elections and expressed 'serious concerns' about the election results announced by Venezuela's National Electoral Council, which declared Maduro the winner.
