Venezuela crisis shrugged off by City as oil prices slip and FTSE 100 nears 10,000

The City today shrugged off the turmoil in Venezuela as many bankers and traders made their first return to desks after the Christmas break.

The FTSE-100 index of blue chip stocks opened up sharply, briefly topping the 10,000 mark that it broached for the first time ever on Friday, before falling back slightly.
